Want To Relocate? Here Are 5 Tips For Hiring Quality Movers
Moving to a new home can be an exciting, but stressful, time in your life. You want to be able to focus on the main aspects, like switching your utilities, choosing paints and decor, and maybe even finding a new job, but instead, you have to spend countless hours packing and storing all of your goods just to move them and unpack them.
What if you could just hand the job over to someone who would do just as good, if not better, of a job as you? It’s not a miracle, though – it’s just what happens when you hire a quality mover.
So how do you find these magic workers? Here are 5 tips for hiring the right movers for your worldly possessions.
5 Tips to Find a Quality Mover
1. Get references. Not everyone has experience with hiring a moving company. If you don’t have anyone that you trust who can give you a recommendation, check online. When you find someone that appears reputable, ask for references of at least three previous customers, and then don’t hesitate to contact them to ask about their experience.
2. Find out how they keep track of your goods. When you hire someone to move your entire home, there needs to be a way for them (and you) to ensure that all of your possessions have arrived safely. Many moving companies will send someone to take inventory of your belongings and have the list approved by you.
3. Ask how they charge for your move. Part of a mover’s price is based on the distance. For instance, not everyone will move you into another country, but cross border moving companies will give you a moving quote based on the distance. They may also charge by the weight of your belongings and how much space everything takes up in the moving truck.
4. Ask about packing costs, too. Usually, if you pack everything yourself, you can get a cheaper price. However, check into how much the movers will charge to pack everything for you. This way, any damage done is the responsibility of the mover.
Depending on your budget and your financial situation, the time and labor the moving company charges you might be worth avoiding the stress and aggravation of moving everything yourself.
5. Find out which type of liability coverage the company provides. You may have to pay a little extra for full coverage, but a full (replacement) value protection will pay you if the movers lose, destroy, or damage any of your items during the move.
If you prefer not to add the extra cost, you can elect to choose the alternative level of liability. This option limits the mover to a liability of a limited cost per pound of each item.
Most moving companies usually default to the full coverage at the extra cost to you, but you can specify and sign off to choose the alternative level if you prefer.
Magic Movers? Don’t Sacrifice Quality for Cost
With a little research and the right questions, you can find a quality mover at a reasonable cost to help you when it is time for you to move to a new home. While it’s not magic, it may seem that way when the stress of the move is placed into your moving company’s experienced hands.
