Designing Your Dream House: 4 Unique Types Of Home Additions

You might have wondered why some homes have more space in their houses that perfectly suit their family needs. Well, this is because of the different house additions they use.

House additions come in different varieties depending on your desires. However, they range from low cost, the do-it-yourself to valuable full-size additions.

Some of the house additions include sunrooms, garage conversions, convectional additions, etc. These additions can be costly depending on the type you want. Some even exceed the cost of the house itself.

The advantage of these additions is that you can do all the splendid things you’ve always dream.

Below are the four unique types of house additions you can always apply when designing your dream house.

1. Conventional House Addition

This type of home additions are usually built on the side of your main house to serve multi-purposes. For example, this room can serve as a dining room, guest bedroom, washroom, or even family room depending on your needs.

If at all you have intentions to make your addition an apartment, then perhaps you can include a kitchen which is rarely added most additions. This could be costly as it more or less as building a complete house.

This type of addition takes longer to complete, however, help you consider the fact that you’re adding a complete house with all the trappings.

2. Room Addition or Bump Out

This type of addition is built on one side of the house specifically for one function such as washroom or bedroom. It may just expand the size of a single room in the house.

Room addition in most cases provides a new roofline, thus, employing shade. However cheap these addition types seem, they are still subjected to permits, inspectors and building codes too.

3. Sunroom

A sunroom is an addition to the side of the house mainly to supplement the living area. They are usually closed with doors from the central part of the house.

These additions are smaller than conventional house additions, therefore, can’t serve the same function. However, sunrooms could good for you because no air conditioning is needed.

The disadvantage of these additions is that they can’t be used as permanent sleeping areas. On the other hand, additional rooms such as bathrooms and kitchen cannot be included in the sunrooms. This is because they are meant for a short period of time.

4. Garage Conversions

You may be wondering how a garage can be converted into house additions. All you need is to change your garage floor, replacing your garage doors with a solid wall and install your ceiling. This type of acquisition is cheaper because all required is a renovation.

Mostly converted garage is meant for living rooms or bedrooms. This is because all the components required for a basic room or living spaces are already installed. These components may include electricity, windows, etc.

However, these conversions can be disadvantageous because it may not blend with the rest of the house. So, you are at a high position of going at a loss when selling your house because garage converted apartments always have a low sale value.
